Rich color infused with shimmering light is a hallmark of Linda Coulter's art style.

In our art education program, we teach several different painting styles to achieve this special effect.

What is Coulter Grisaille™?

Oil color glazes applied over a neutral gray tone underpainting.  This art style focuses on mastering values as a foundation over which rich transparent colors are applied, and radiant sunlight is punctuated with brilliant opaque accents.

What is Coultermix™?

Full color from start to finish is the hallmark of Coultermix™ designs.  To achieve magnificent depth, beautiful color harmonies and radiant sunlight, we apply oil color glazes over a variety of colored foundations ranging from imprimatura, verdaccio, bistre, toned hues, earthy hues, and neutralized complements.  The color theory of the Coulter Color Village is applied with paint and brush to artist canvas or wood projects in delicate multiple layers with gossamer accents using Linda Coulter's special techniques.

What are Gossamer Accents?

Through the years, the Coulter team has developed many wonderful techniques to accessorize your art work when painting on wood objects.  They include acrylic based faux finishes with sheer color and texture overlays;  grisaille ornamentation that gives a flat surface appear to be sculptured;  trompe l'oeil accents to trick the eyes; and glimmering Mica Radiance to add a touch of elegance to any design.   

What is "au premiere coup"?

Au Premiere Coup art style and techniques focus on oil paint from start to finish.  There is no underpainting.  This is a direct painting style.

 You'll learn how to master color, tone, value, texture, rhythm, movement and harmony with oil colors as you paint many beautiful  subjects, ranging from delicate flowers and foliage to elegant swans, graceful waterfowl and song birds.  You'll enjoy this timeless art style and free flowing techniques that carry you back in time to your favorite memories!

Be sure you buy the grisaille paint that provides a playground for natural sunlight to participate in the art work.  This is called Color Radiance™ .

Linda Coulter's gray tone palette ranges from light to dark, transparent to opaque, flat to reflective, and can be organized in 60 Seconds! 

The grisaille underpainting technique is foundational for Color Radiance™ (rich color infused with shimmering light) in the finished art work.

This paint set is required for painting Coulter Grisaille™ art projects.  It supports the techniques in our art style.
